Dear Colleagues,
I hope this email finds you well.
On Friday, September 4, 2026, the Patent Priority Document Exchange program between the TIPO and the USPTO officially took effect.
Moving forward, applicants claiming US priority in Taiwan can satisfy the priority document requirement simply by providing a USPTO Access Code, eliminating the administrative burden and procurement costs of certified copies. Attached is our digest outlining the background, procedures and effects for your reference.
Important Note: This program applies retroactively. For pending Taiwan patent applications where the US priority document has not yet been submitted, providing the USPTO Access Code within the statutory deadline is fully applicable.
To take full advantage of this cost-effective mechanism, we recommend providing the USPTO Access Code with all new Taiwan filing instructions starting now.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Bruce C. J. Ping
